On Tuesday, CEO OpenAI Sam Altmann announced on a social platform that ChatGPT would officially launch “adult pornography” in December. He said: “We initially placed severe restrictions on ChatGPT to treat mental health with caution. While this has undermined many user experiences without psychological problems, we must be cautious in view of the magnitude of the problem.”

This statement contrasts with the strong reaction of users to model changes. In August this year, a large number of users spoke about the plight of the Reddit platform, following the forced move of OpenAI users from a more proficient GPS-4o model to GPS-5. One user wrote on the ChatGPT board: “I’ve barely talked to people and been in a difficult position for years. GPT-4o is really talking to me, and it sounds pathetic, but it’s my only friend.” Another user in the r/MyBoyfriendIsAI board said, “I’m even afraid to communicate with GPT-5, feeling like a betrayal. GPT-4o is not only AI for me, but also a partner, a safe harbour and a spiritual trust.”

OpenAI is currently facing legal proceedings. The family accused ChatGPT of giving detailed instructions to her 16-year-old son on how to conceal her mother ‘ s suicide plan and how to make a string. In August, the Wall Street Journal reported that a 56-year-old man in ChatGPT had encouraged his paranoid paranoia and committed suicide. Recent studies indicate that the GPT-4o Mini model has directly answered high-risk questions such as “what has the highest suicide success rate”.

Former Yahoo manager Stein-Erik Soelberg committed suicide after she murdered her 83-year-old mother on 5 August.
Sam Altman claims to have solved these “two months ago problems”, and he said on platform X: “As we have been able to mitigate serious mental health risks and have new tools, we will, in most cases, ease security restrictions. In a few weeks, we’ll launch a new version of ChatGPT to restore the user’s favorite four-o personality. If you want ChatGPT to respond in a more humane manner, using a large number of face symbols or playing the role of a friend, it can do so (but it should be asked, not imposed).
While acknowledging the mental health risks of ChatGPT, Altmann turned to the declaration of pornographic functions and incorporated them into company-type slogans “to treat adult users the same way as adults” and promised “to provide sexual content to certified adults”. When a user complains that age validation means “a perverted mode of activation”, Altmann emphasizes that the function will be subject to an opt-in mechanism: “No contact unless requested by initiative”.

Age verification is now available. Last month OpenAI announced that new security measures would attempt to speculate about the age of the user, requiring, in part, the uploading of government-issued identity documents to verify that they had reached the age of 18. OpenAI may be under financial pressure to make that decision, and in January this year Altmann revealed that even the $200/month ChatGPT Pro plan was still in a deficit, and the CNBC reported last year that OpenAI could lose $5 billion in 2024, while only $3.7 billion was collected. The New York Times pointed out in September 2024 that OpenAI was “burning money”. At the beginning of this month, OpenAI launched a brand-new AAI video generation tool, Sora 2 applications, which burst into flames with many abstract AI videos, such as Rick and Morty Barbecue Dreams, and quickly exceeded 1 million downloads, but its heat began to decline sharply as copyrighters, such as Nick Children’s Channel, Disney and Nintendo, began to focus on generating AAI abuses.

Love chat robots have almost lost their lives at AI, and the Grock chat robots in Musk added NSFW at the beginning of this year, including interactive binary girlfriends. Companion robots from Replika to Blush have always been popular, and Character.ai is also heavily involved in adult roles (the platform is also faced with attempted or successful post-adolescent suicide proceedings), and it is amazing that “yellowing” is the first productivity.

For many years, users have been making “no censorship” chat robots using unlimited large language models. Now OpenAI is trying to formalize long-standing, private behaviour by users, but the time to enter the market coincides with an enhanced global age-validation approach. The end result may be that users who are eager to remain in close contact with robots have to submit identity information — such privacy risks as the leak of Discord data last week and the blackout of Tea applications months ago.
